Contemporary abstractions that combine grids from orange construction fences and rich textured mixed media surfaces.
I have been using monoprints of construction fences in my artwork since 2002, when I started seeing different patterns, shapes, and sizes as they were being used at many construction sites as a barrier to keep people out of danger by blocking off the site.
While it is debatable whether cloth face masks can protect anyone from getting Covid-19, I am using my monoprinted fabric to create the Pandemic Face Mask series in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
I started making masks from purchased fabrics for families and friends on April 4, 2020. On April 6th, I started making my art masks, a few days before Massachusetts governor, Charlie Baker, issued guidance for residents to wear coronavirus masks in public on April 10th.
Each wearable painting is created with monoprinted textures of construction fences on fabric and mixed media techniques.
