Dates in a Life: Kidney Donor Anniversary
Dates in a Life: Kidney Donor Anniversary documents time from February 23, 2020 through my one-year anniversary on December 17th, and ends December 18, 2020.
There are symbols that represent a medical test (urine and blood), a 6-month followup appointment with a member of my medical team, my son’s one-year surgery anniversary, meeting his kidney donor, donating blood twice (because I want to do more and can’t donate my second kidney), the 45th anniversary of my father dying after his failed kidney transplant, my one-year donation anniversary, and just passing time as I healed and continued with my life after I donated.
I did not to use a calendar format, as I did for my Dates in a Life Walking Project paintings. The thin white lines under a square highlight Saturdays and Sundays to give a sense of time.
The silver paint under each square to signifies when Covid hit hard in Massachusetts on March 15 through when I finished this painting, the same as I did on my 2020 Walking painting.
